LEGO QUIDDITCH

History of the Quidditch World Cup

The guidebook, The Official Guide to the Quidditch World Cup, documented the game since its inception in 1473. The International Confederation of Wizards’ Quidditch Committee published the book.

During the 15th and the 16th centuries only, European countries participated.

Some scholars count the inception of the Quidditch World Cup from the 17th C., as it was from then the competition opened up to all continents.

However, there remains some dispute over the accuracy of the historical accounts of this tournament.

How Teams Qualified and Played for the Quidditch World Cup

The tournament had sixteen groups of teams. The group phase matches lasted for over two years. During the group phase, each player got a cap of four hours to avoid getting exhausted.

In some cases, the game ended after four hours of play, and no one caught the Golden Snitch. Then they declared the result based on who scored the most goals.

Winning the game will earn the team two points. Additionally, a win by 150 points will earn them five points. A win by 100 points will get them an extra three points, and a win by 50 points would earn them one extra point.

For instance, let’s say two teams had the same points. Then they would qualify if their Seeker catches the Snitch before the other. The Seeker gave the team a winning 150 points. Harry, the Gryffindor Seeker in the 1991-1992 season, caught the Golden Snitch, securing a win for Gryffindor against Slytherin.

The sixteen teams that finished on the top of each group qualified for the World Cup.

The 1994 Quidditch World Cup

The 1994 Quidditch World Cup took place in Dartmoor, England. The Trio and many other prominent wizards and witches attended the match.

Draco and Lucius Malfoy, Amos and Cedric Diggory, Professor Dumbledore and the Minister of Magic, Bartemius Crouch Sr. attended the match. It was the 422nd Quidditch World Cup final.

You, too, can now conduct your Quidditch match.
